What should I do if the mixer is leaking?
Mixing valves are becoming increasingly popular, but problems can still arise from time to time. What should you do if your mixing valve starts leaking? Below, we’ll show you how to repair a mixing valve.
I. Types of Mixing Valve Repairs
Based on the scope of the fault, the repair of a mixing valve can be divided into two types: one is damage only to the valve core; the other is leakage due to a failure in the rotating seal of the outlet pipe.
II. Repair Process
1. Remove the handle: Unscrew the set screw on the handle, then pull the handle outward with force to separate it from the valve core’s swivel arm.
2. Remove the valve core compression nut: The nut is a thin-walled, ring-shaped component that is prone to damage and deformation during removal.
3. After removing the compression nut, the valve core can be taken out. However, before installing the new valve core, you must carefully inspect and pre-treat the bottom surface of the valve core installation cavity.
4. Insert the new valve core into the valve body cavity. After aligning the two positioning holes at the bottom and confirming that they are correctly aligned, tighten the compression nut and then attach the handle. When installing the handle, you may find that the square cross-section of the valve core’s rocker arm fits rather tightly into the square hole of the handle. In such cases, you can use the sharp edge of broken glass or a cut-off saw blade to carefully scrape the plastic rocker arm and adjust the fit.
