How long can the new smart water meter last?
Due to the inconvenience of manual meter reading and their short service life, mechanical water meters are gradually being replaced by smart water meters. Some water meter manufacturers on the market guarantee that their smart meters can last anywhere from 8 to 10 years. But just how long can a new smart water meter really last?
The power consumption of the battery pack mainly includes several aspects: self-discharge of the battery, display of water volume, valve switching, and communication-related power consumption. The power consumption for a single instant upload of data is 81 mA/9 seconds. Under static current conditions, the self-discharge rate is below 3.1 μA. However, when valve switching is factored in, the overall power consumption increases, leading to reduced battery life and accelerated degradation.
Most water meter manufacturers on the market use batteries with capacities ranging from 2,000 mAh to 2,800 mAh. Theoretically, smart water meters have a service life of over six years. Our company’s smart water meter features a copper housing for the base meter and a stainless steel ball valve. The remote transmission module is housed in an ABS plastic casing, while the electronic components are encapsulated using a special process. The meter’s waterproof rating meets the IP68 standard specified by the enclosure protection rating code, ensuring that the water meter can reliably meet its intended service life requirements.
