What should I do if my smart water meter won’t read?
With the rapid advancement of technology, water meters have undergone a revolutionary transformation. Previously, water meters were cumbersome to operate and often provided inaccurate readings. Now, with the introduction of smart water meters, people are delighted by their user-friendly operation and quick payment features. However, many people still struggle to read their water meters correctly. Learning how to read your water meter yourself not only helps us conserve water and avoid waste but also enables us to keep track of our water bills more effectively. Below, we’ll show you the correct method for reading your water meter.
What is a smart water meter?
An intelligent IC-card water meter is a new type of water meter that uses modern microelectronics technology, advanced sensing technology, and smart IC-card technology to measure water consumption, transmit water-use data, and process billing transactions. Compared with traditional water meters that only have functions for collecting flow rates and displaying water consumption via mechanical pointers, this represents a significant advancement. Common sense on how to read a water meter.

How do you read a smart water meter?
If the hundreds digit of the water meter is between 2 and 3, are all readings close to the 3 side actually 2? When reading 3, do you have to completely cross over the 3 side? If the pointer is facing exactly at 3, should you read 2 or 3? In fact, just like a watch, the hour hand and minute hand are related—but in a water meter, many of the pointers rotate around different axes. When a pointer is between two digits, you should read the smaller digit. If the hundreds digit of the water meter is between 2 and 3, and the reading closest to the 3 side is 2, then the tens digit must be around 8—because once the tens digit reaches 10, the hundreds digit will adjust to 3.
When there is a discrepancy between the water meter reading and the total water meter reading, supplementary readings should be provided as appropriate according to relevant regulations. If the red pointer continues to rotate and move even when no water is being used, it indicates that there is a leak in the water-using equipment, and the leak should be repaired promptly. In addition, the installed water meter must be kept perfectly level. Furthermore, it should be protected from exposure to fire, immersion in water, and severe vibrations to prolong its service life and ensure the accuracy of measurement.
