The mixing valve is broken! How do I repair it?
Although mixing valves offer high temperature control accuracy and are easy to install, they tend to develop some issues after prolonged use. Below, we’ll show you how to handle a malfunctioning mixing valve.
1. Before repairing the mixing valve, make sure to turn off the main cold water valve and the power switch of the water heater. Open the mixing valve and let the water flow until it’s completely drained.
2. Disassemble the mixing valve. When disassembling, pay attention to the water temperature at the inlet. First, loosen the set screw in the middle of the handle, remove the handle, and then use an adjustable wrench to loosen the compression nut on the valve core, allowing you to take out the valve core. Next, clean away any accumulated dirt or blockages.
3. If there’s a leak, you can use glue to seal it. For severe cases, replace the mixing valve with a new one.
