Why do biomass pellets coke?
Recently, many users have been reporting that biomass pellet stoves consistently suffer from coking problems. After cooling, the coked deposits become extremely hard and are very difficult to remove manually. Many users are troubled by this issue and have tried numerous methods, yet none have proven effective in solving it. Below, we’ll explain why biomass pellets tend to coke.

Biomass pellets are primarily made from wood chips, tree bark, straw, and other similar materials. These fuels contain relatively high levels of elements such as potassium and sodium, which result in low ash melting points. At temperatures above 500 degrees Celsius, the ash can melt into solid clumps, leading to coking phenomena inside the furnace. In typical biomass furnaces, where temperatures often exceed 800 degrees Celsius, these coked deposits assume a glassy, extremely hard consistency, making them very difficult to remove.
The above is the explanation for why biomass pellet stoves tend to clog with coke. We hope this information is helpful to you. If you have any further questions, feel free to call us at 0314-5932916—we’re always here to assist you.
