What elements are needed to build a comprehensive smart water management system?
Smart water management is achieved through the deep integration of next-generation information technology with water management technologies, fully unlocking the value of data and underlying logical relationships. This enables intelligent control of water management systems, data-driven resource utilization, precise management, and smart decision-making, thereby ensuring the safe operation of water infrastructure and making water management operations more efficient, management more scientific, and services of higher quality. Below, we’ll introduce the architectural components required to build a comprehensive smart water management system.
1. Smart Water Management Monitoring System
The monitoring system primarily comprises the following four components: flood control, water resource management, water environment management, and aquatic ecological management. Compared with traditional monitoring methods, the smart water management monitoring system should more heavily rely on scientific and technological advancements.
2. Smart Water Management Control System
The control system comprises five categories: flood control, water source management, water supply, drainage, and ecological river and lake management. It primarily focuses on the collection, regulation, and treatment of urban wastewater discharge to prevent environmental pollution.

3. Smart Water Affairs Data Center
Data standardization is achieved by integrating with the metadata database and leveraging the data resource catalog. On this existing integrated foundation, a data warehouse will be built to provide data support for processes such as analysis, statistics, and decision-making, thereby powering the smart water management platform.
4. Smart Water Management Application System
The application system is primarily aimed at the public, government agencies, and business units—highlighting the service recipients. As the underlying infrastructure for smart water management is being fully established, a key issue that the application system needs to address is how to effectively engage with these various service recipients.
