The Mathematical Knowledge Inside Water Meters
Smart water meters are gradually gaining popularity due to their simple installation and intelligent, secure features. They have consistently received high praise in the market and are closely tied to our daily water usage. The world of water meters is also rich with mathematical concepts—such as how to conserve water and how to reduce water bills. Below, we’ll introduce some of the mathematical principles hidden within water meters.
Common residential water meters are divided into three types: dial-type water meters, digital water meters, and smart card-based water meters.
For example, in a pointer-type water meter, the black circle represents the integer part. Arranged clockwise, they correspond sequentially to the thousands place, hundreds place, tens place, and ones place.

Taking the ones digit as an example, if the pointer is between 5 and 6, it means the pointer has passed 5 but hasn't yet reached 6. Therefore, the ones digit is 5.
On the dial, the red circles represent the decimal places, arranged clockwise in the following order: tenths, hundredths, thousandths, and ten-thousandths. A red circle at the tenths position indicating 5 represents 0.5 tons, while a red circle at the hundredths position indicating 7 represents 0.07.
What’s the use of reading the water meter? One very important use is to record the meter readings each month, allowing you to keep track of how much water you’re using every month.

Longzhida Company Successfully Hosted the Victory Parade Commemorating the War of Resistance.
Today is a day that every Chinese person should solemnly remember—the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
On July 2, Chengde Longzhida Company held a meeting with the Sino-German Institute. After thorough discussions between the two sides, Mr. Bai, General Manager of Longzhida Company, and the faculty team from the Sino-German Institute reached a consensus: Longzhida Company officially entrusted the Sino-German Institute to carry out the design and R&D work for a new type of ultrasonic water meter.
On May 30, Longzhida Company successfully held an exceptionally meaningful event titled “Welcoming the Eighth ‘National Science and Technology Workers’ Day’: Promoting the Spirit of Scientists.”
