System approach for automatic meter reading of tap water
1. Smart card water meter: By purchasing cards and water via prepaid payment, meter reading and network integration are not implemented.
2. Distributed meter reading with centralized collection: Each water meter is connected individually to a data collector, which then collects and processes the data in a unified manner.
3. Bus-based centralized meter reading: The water meters in this province have multiple data measurement and processing functions, and multiple water meters are connected to the same data bus.
4. Wireless transmitting water meter: It’s also a smart water meter, but data reception and transmission are accomplished wirelessly.
The four meter-reading systems mentioned above each have their own distinctive features. Precisely because of these unique characteristics, water supply companies can tailor their approach to local conditions: For older residential buildings, they can install smart-card water meters; for scattered, non-contiguous residential complexes, they can adopt a building-level system, using a single unit management device to collect readings from all water meters within the building; and for newly constructed, densely populated smart residential complexes, they can set up a network, enabling the property management center of the community to use a higher-level computer to collect and process data from all water meters in the community. As for whether to choose a bus-based or a distributed-line meter-reading system, that depends on installation requirements and costs.
