No one is home, yet the water meter is quietly spinning on its own. What could be causing this phenomenon? The reason is that when a new water meter is installed or moved to a different location, the water in the pipe is drained out, allowing air to enter. When the water supply is restored, the flowing water pushes the air inside the pipe toward the dead ends of the indoor plumbing system, creating “compressed air.” This process continues until the air pressure and water pressure reach equilibrium. At this point, there’s an interface between the air and the water, and the pressure difference across this interface becomes zero. As a result, the water meter starts spinning without any actual water flow—this is known as “empty rotation” of the water meter. To prevent this from happening, we’d like to introduce the following methods.
